The Ignition Framework
As with the four previously released themes, Public Opinion is also based on our new Ignition Framework. The framework lives in an independent plugin and carries all the required templates and functionality that make your site work, allowing the theme to do what it does best, make your site look pretty. This separation makes themes very easy to work with and customize due to the complete lack of clatter added by non-theme related functionality, no custom post types, meta or third-party integrations to shift through. The plugin is shared by all Ignition Framework based themes, this allows us to instantly push out any necessary compatibility, security and feature updates to all themes.
And now let’s move on to some key theme features.
Customization
Public Opinion comes with dozens of customization options built in the familiar interface of the WordPress Customizer. You can easily modify the site’s layout, width and column composition, create a unique color scheme by modifying all theme colors globally or for each distinct site section independently (top bar, header, footer etc). Optimize the typography by selecting the ideal font pairing among the hundred available Google Fonts and further tune it by modifying font options for key theme elements. Choose what appears on your post listings and single posts, toggle the weather info, lightboxes, news ticker and more to achieve the appearance that perfectly matches your needs.
Customizable Header
Tailor your site’s header with an optional top bar along with the header section. Both feature predefined areas which can display custom content like plain text, HTML or even one of the theme’s built in shortcodes like the weather, social menu or WooCommerce related ones like the mini cart. The header can be made sticky and all colors can be easily customized.
Flexible Categories
Categorization is key on any magazine theme in order to make the content more accessible to users. With Public Opinion you can make your categories more distinguishable by applying to them a unique color. The color will be applied on the category’s title on the widgets, on post meta, single post links, post tags and more making it that much easier for your users to know what sort of content they are looking at. Additionally you can display featured posts on the hero section of category listings, there are eight different layouts available for the featured posts section and each category can have a different one.
Global Sections
With Global Sections you can easily create and reuse pieces of content on more than 20 key theme locations, such as before and after the header & footer, before and after the content and more. Utilize them to create call to actions, banners, display social feeds and more to capture your audience’s attention. The content for a global section can either be created using the block editor or your preferred page builder.
WooCommerce Compatibility
Public Opinion supports WooCommerce out of the box. Sell anything, from physical products, to digital downloads, tickets, subscription and more through an online store which perfectly matches your online magazine. Customize your store by choosing the optimal product listing layout, show alternative product images on listing pages, fine-tune the appearance of the single product’s gallery and more to better promote your products.
Performance
A modern website can’t just look good, it needs to be snappy and responsive as well. To help you achieve this we have built our new framework with performance in mind. No unnecessary assets are loaded at any point. All styles and scripts are served minified and packed where possible and third party integrations do not load unless the affected plugin is present and active on the site.
A great mobile experience
The mobile audience of magazine and news related sites is growing constantly, to cater to that audience we design and test our themes with real devices. This allows us to present mobile users with the best experience possible when visiting sites based on our themes.
Ready for the block editor
Public Opinion relies almost exclusively on blocks to present its content. A combination of core blocks and custom ones provided by our free plugin, GutenBee was used to create all layouts you see on the theme’s demo. We tested the blocks extensively and applied styling where necessary to closely match them to the theme’s appearance. Furthermore we included a new custom block in GutenBee, the Review block which allows users to easily quantify and present the summary of a reviewed product or service to their readers. Of course the theme will work with popular page builders like Beaver Builder, Elementor and more.
Easy to get started
We want everyone to be able to get up and running with their new Public Opinion based magazine site as fast as possible. To help with that we have incorporated a helpful onboarding page and built in one-click demo importing functionality. Additionally all framework based themes will soon get variations which will allow the user to modify the layout and appearance of the theme with just a couple of clicks to better accommodate different niches.
