Warning! SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett episode 6.
Following Cad Bane’s live-action debut in The Book of Boba Fett, fans have taken it upon themselves to fix his design. Boba Fett’s spinoff show starring Temuera Morrison was announced in The Mandalorian season 2’s post-credits scene in 2020, but Disney+ subscribers had to wait until early 2022 to see the series. The Book of Boba Fett has been a divisive release, though, as Boba Fett’s story and flashbacks brought mixed reactions. However, he took a backseat in the most recent episodes of the show, as Din Djarin and many other familiar faces took the spotlight instead.
The Book of Boba Fett episode 6 was littered with recognizable characters from The Mandalorian‘s universe, as Grogu, Cobb Vanth, Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker, and R2-D2 all appeared. However, the episode also featured the live-action debut of Cad Bane, a fan-favorite bounty hunter who debuted in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He appeared as a hired gun for the Pyke Syndicate and threatened Cobb Vanth. Cad Bane’s live-action debut has been highly anticipated ever since The Book of Boba Fett was announced, as the show seemed like the perfect place for Boba Fett’s mentor to appear.
As exciting as Cad Bane’s live-action debut was, it has been met with some criticism for the character design. Fans are fully aware of how Cad Bane is supposed to look based on his animation appearances, but The Book of Boba Fett made some changes that haven’t sat well with all viewers. As a result, some Star Wars fans have done the work to redesign Cad Bane’s live-action look. The YouTube channel Cinematic Captures has now brought a more faithful design to Cad Bane’s live-action appearance.
The have mostly been fixed with this redesign. The character’s darker blue skin from the animated shows is restored, which immediately took some viewers by surprise. His facial structure has also been adjusted to better match his animated look, as his nose is made narrower and longer. This also pushes Cad Bane’s mouth lower and makes his chin smaller. All in all, the redesign makes Cad Bane look much more like his animated self in The Book of Boba Fett‘s live-action cameo.
Even though The Book of Boba Fett changed Cad Bane’s look (and arguably for the worse), there are some possible explanations for why it was done. It could be the result of Cad Bane being significantly older here than he was in past appearances. There are also real-world factors to consider, such as the show not being able to find someone with Cad Bane’s facial structure or that the darker blue skin makes his expressions harder to see. In any case, fans shouldn’t expect Cad Bane’s appearance to change this significantly if he’s in another episode of Boba Fett, but perhaps future live-action roles will make adjustments.
