Google Business Profile Suspended? A Practical Appeal Workflow for 2026

Originally published: January 9, 2023 · Last updated: August 17, 2026

A suspended or disabled Google Business Profile can remove an important local discovery channel overnight. The worst response is usually to create another profile or submit repeated appeals before understanding the policy issue.

Google’s current process is built around the Business Profile appeals tool. Prepare the profile and evidence before you start.

1. Read the reason shown in the appeals tool

Sign in with the Google account associated with the Business Profile and open the appeals tool. Google displays the restricted profile, the moderation reason and a link to the relevant policy when that information is available.

Do not guess at the cause before reviewing that information.

2. Check the profile against Google’s guidelines

Review the business name, category, address or service area, phone number, website and other core details. The profile should represent the real business accurately rather than contain promotional additions intended to influence rankings.

Correct genuine policy problems before submitting the appeal.

3. Prepare evidence in advance

Google lists examples of evidence that can strengthen an appeal, including official business registration, business licenses, tax certificates and utility bills. Documents should match the business name and address shown on the profile where relevant.

This preparation matters because Google currently states that if you open the optional evidence form, you must submit it within 60 minutes for the evidence to be attached to the appeal.

4. Submit one clear appeal

Use the official appeals tool, select the affected profile and submit the appeal. If the evidence option appears, add the documents and concise context that demonstrate why the business is eligible and accurately represented.

Do not bury the useful evidence inside a long emotional explanation. The appeal should make the compliance case easy to verify.

5. Do not create a duplicate profile

Google specifically warns against creating a new Business Profile for the same business while the appeal is under review. A duplicate can make the situation more complicated rather than restoring visibility.

6. Track the appeal status

The appeals tool can show statuses such as Submitted, Approved, Not Approved, Can’t be appealed or Eligible for appeal. Wait for the decision rather than submitting multiple appeals for the same issue.

7. If the appeal is denied

Google may provide an additional review process for denied requests. Use it only after examining the first decision and providing new or stronger evidence where possible.

Account restrictions are a separate layer

If the Google account managing the profile is itself restricted, Google says the account restriction may need to be lifted before the Business Profile suspension can be resolved. Check whether the problem affects the profile, the managing account or both.

Bottom line

A Business Profile suspension is an appeal and evidence problem, not an SEO trick. Review the policy reason, correct inaccurate information, prepare matching official documentation and use Google’s appeals tool once with a clear case. Do not create replacement profiles or flood the process with duplicate appeals.
